Chiang Kai-shek was a Chinese and Taiwanese military commander, revolutionary, and statesman who was the leader of the Republic of China (ROC) from 1925 to 1948. He led the Nationalist government during the ROC's mainland period through World War II from 1925 to 1948, and continued to govern after the ROC relocated to Taiwan following defeat in the Chinese Civil War. He was the president of the Republic of China from 1948 to 1975.
