Barack Hussein Obama II was born at Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu to Barack Obama Sr., a Kenyan economist, and Ann Dunham, an American anthropologist. Raised partly in Hawaii and Indonesia, Obama went on to Columbia and Harvard Law before entering Illinois politics, eventually becoming a US Senator and, in 2008, the first African American elected President of the United States.
